To create the Network Descriptor (.nd) file, scan the folder where QuickBooks Company file(s) stored. This .nd file generally stores all the host files in the computer.

  1. Hit onto the “Windows” or “Start” icon.
  2. Go to the “Programs” tab => “QuickBooks” tab => “QuickBooks Database Server Manager” tab.
  3. Go to the QuickBooks Database Server Manager screen, select the “Add Folder” icon & then, navigate to the folder with QB company files.
  4. Once all the folders are added, hit onto the “Scan” tab.
  5. In the “QuickBooks Company File” tab, you will see the QuickBooks data files. Choose the “Close” icon.
  6. Find the folder that contains all the QB Company file(s) & then, ensure that the .QBW .ND file has created with every QB Company file.

Important Note:

  • Go to the “Program List” tab,
  • If you don’t find any “QuickBooks Database Server Manager” icon
  • Re-install the QuickBooks application.
  • Choose the second option – “I’ll be using QuickBooks on this computer, AND I’ll be storing our company file here so it can share over our network”.

Step 5: Check the hosting on the systems

Under the network environment, the machine (server) with the hosting feature turned on is supposed to be the only computer where the QuickBooks Database Server Manager (QBDSM) installed. Scan the QuickBooks Company file(s) while the hosting turns on.

Copy the company file to another location

  1. Open/access the folder that contains the QB company file.
  2. Perform click the “file name” & then, choose the “Copy” icon.
  3. Moreover, hit onto the empty area on the “Windows Desktop” icon & choose the “Paste” icon.
  4. Open/access the QuickBooks application & then, open/access the QB company file on the Desktop:
    • If you still encounter the QB error warning message, you might have the QuickBooks data damage.
      1. Restore the newly backed up QB company file.
